This Is the Reason Why You Should Actually Only Wipe Once After Doing a Number Two

Have you ever considered this?

When you visit ‘the smallest room’ to go and have a poop, it’s not something you feel like announcing to the world. How often you should wipe after a number two definitely isn’t a topic you like to discuss with other people. But have you ever thought about what is normal or best when it comes to wiping after having a bowel movement?

Ideally, you should only need a couple of pieces of toilet paper.

Toilet paper
Many people prefer to make sure they always have a lot of toilet paper stored at home. Because what if you need to do a number two and you’re almost out of toilet paper? Well, you’ll have a bit of a problem if that happens, won’t you? But really, just a couple of pieces of toilet paper should already be enough. Naturopathic doctor Mirasol Teijeiro explains to podcast Urban Wellness Clinic that ideally the piece of paper you wipe with should come back practically spotless. “You should have absolutely nothing on the paper. You should wipe once, and wipe clean.”

Bowel movement
But what’s the reason why you should only have to wipe once? According to the naturopathic doctor, it has everything to do with a healthy bowel movement. She explains: “If you need multiple pieces of paper to clean it all, this could indicate bad bowel movements. It might also be a sign that you eat foods that you’re sensitive to, you have too much stress or that your intestinal bacteria aren’t working optimally.

Perfect poop
If you have good, healthy bowel movements, then you will also have a proper turd, to just call the thing by its name. The perfect turd should sink to the bottom of the toilet right away, Tejeiro explains. Besides that, it should have a ‘good’ brown colour and it should be about as long as your forearm – but we don’t recommend measuring it.
